To realize sustainable environmental management, it is essential to pursue environmental conservation and business operations under a united decision-making scheme instead of implementing two separate, sometimes incompatible missions. Environmental management is very necessary in companies and factories in order to preserve the natural quality of the environment and to keep our earth green and safe. During the set up of company or a factory, a large area is taken for its construction. As a result, the natural flora and fauna of that place are totally evacuated because of the human needs. Such drastic and sudden changes in the atmosphere in a large scale are in the process till today as many new companies are being set up nowadays. Therefore, to counter act the loss of the environment or to replenish the flora and fauna lost, steps should be taken by the responsible companies for a proper environmental management for the preservation of the environment.

Thus, for the proper management of the environment, the companies should put in certain environmental laws to action to refurnish the natural resources and the environment depleted by them. Laws should also be made to punish them if they abide by the laws made such as like paying a fair compensation for the loss they would have done. Otherwise, in the near future the quality of our environment will be degraded to a great extent, and the earth will become a poisonous place to live in. Therefore, laws must be formulated to preserve the natural heritage of our mother earth.

Environmental assessment is taken up as a rapid assessment technique for determining the status of the environment and identifying impact of critical activities on environmental parameters. Based on this report we can make an Environmental Management Plan that would ensure impact monitoring and mitigation planning. Environmental Assessment enables us in carrying out Environmental Cost-Benefit Analysis of projects at an initial stage. It is thus a pre-cursor to detailed analysis of environmental impacts, which are taken up only if a need for the same is established. This is required in view of the fact that the community at large is always at a loss in terms of deterioration of living environment that accompanies industrial development. Based on Environmental Assessment, the regulatory measures can be identified and the roles of concerned agencies defined for achieving more efficient environmental management. Concerning the fact that development is an ever-continuing process, its impact on the environment is also increasing day-by-day, leading to rapid deterioration of the environmental quality. For this reason, Environmental Impact Assessment provides a rational approach to sustainable development.

The companies should obtain ISO-14001 standard. This is a management tool enabling a company of any size or type to identify and control the environmental hazards due to its activities, products or services, and to improve its environmental performance simultaneously. It also includes a systematic approach to set environmental aims and goals, to attain these and show that they have been achieved.

Once planning consent is over, industrial developments including waste management systems often need to meet the essential standards for environmental preservation; typically covering ambient air quality, water quality, noise, etc. In addition, certain sites must obtain environmental licenses or permits and meet the requirements for pollution control. Industries or processes are regulated by an environmental license or permit that may impose an integrated approach to environmental protection. National and international guidance may also identify benchmark limits for emissions to air or water or as noise, etc. Permits may also govern performance in terms of energy efficiency, waste minimization, materials efficiency, land quality, accident prevention, etc.
